A.D. Rattray Aultmore 2009 Bourbon Barrel #1007 / 55.4% ABV (£72). A 13yo distilled at Aultmore, matured in Bourbon barrels and with an outrun of 237 bottles.
Appearance: Very light, white wine. A delicate beaded swirl line which beads up after a short while. A lovely oozy film and thick legs envelope the glass.
Nose: Indian spices, sharp red berries, funk and spearmint.
Palate: Not particularly viscous, but not thin either. Copper coin, pepper spices and a slight drying. Honey and orchard fruits with pastry too. There’s a lemon biscuit type thing going on too.
Finish: Short to medium in length. Wheat biscuits to start but lemon and black pepper linger longest. The mint also reappears right at the end.
Overall: I struggled with this one. Not my cup of tea but I think I’m on my own!
