A.D. Rattray Glen Moray 2013 Bourbon Hogshead (2 years) then finished in a 1st Fill La Gitana Sherry Barrique / #888 / 65.0% ABV (£65). Limited to 331 bottles.
Appearance: Old gold, a thin film forms and hairline tide mark. After some time the mark beads up and morphs into teardrops. No legs to speak of in my glass!
Nose: A nice ABV wave. Coconut milk, grilled pineapple, a wisp of smoke and white grapes. Some orchard fruit appears as my nose acclimatises, along with vanilla, pastry and red berries.
A funk and friction smouldering wood (after a drilling) appear now. This is getting very funky the more I nose!
Stewed or over-ripe orchard fruits (plums, red apples and pears), sugared pastry too.
Palate: Semi-viscous mouthfeel. Buttermilk, pastry and white pepper on the first sip – a big flavour assault!
Second sip reveals vanilla, custard creams and white chocolate.
Finish: White chocolate, black pepper and that funk!
Overall: Pretty great for an 8yo. Massive flavours but well-balanced and pleasant individually. Love it.
