We enjoyed another awesome tweet tasting last night, courtesy of The Whisky Wire. It was the turn of A D Rattray and they very generously supplied 5 drams to sample and discuss.
AD Rattray Fettercairn 2009 Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky ABV: 58.8% (Cask Strength) Cask: First fill Bourbon hogshead No.1097 Available from October: RRP of £70.00
Appearance: Light honey gold, good viscosity, nice and oily. Decent medium/thick legs form and seep back to the surface
Nose: WOW! Butterscotch Angel Delight, brown sugar Butterkissed popcorn, toffee apples. Ginger and banana bread too.
Palate: Ooohhhh, now this is a palate I enjoy a lot. Lovely and sweet, with a great balance of CS spiciness! Quite a buttery texture, lovely and warming, oozy. The spices build with white pepper and cinnamon. There’s pastry too. Creme brulee
Finish: The finish yields the buttery oaty notes, some white pepper, although it fades quickly from the palate, lemon citrus and a touch of clotted cream.
Overall: This is more my type of dram! Lovely and deep and comforting. The butterscotch and sugary notes work really well with the spices from the ABV. Lovely.
