Only 300 bottles of this whisky were produced. Aged for 20 years, the year of distillation was 1992 and bottled in 2012.
Appearance: Light gold/white wine. A thin swirl mark forms slowly, above a semi-viscous film. Quite a few droplets and some beading. Medium legs form slowly.
Nose: Icing sugar, white grapes and a subtle citrus influence. The ABV is more evident on this dram, it’s nice, but isn’t compromising.
Vanilla and a sugar cane sweetness, a little reminiscent of a rum cask at first sniff.
Sherbert and foam sweets (not bananas) start to form. There might also be orange-flavoured boiled sweets now too?!
Palate: The ABV is punchy but well-judged. Lemon sherberts, white grapes, fruit syrup and black pepper emerge first.
Vanilla and red berries form the next layer, along with some oak and a slight astringency.
A slight drying creeps in after a while.
Finish: Medium in length. Dry with the citrus edge and black pepper.
Overall: Not my cup of tea. It’s a bit too acidic and ‘fizzy’ for me.
