After tasting both the standard and CS versions of Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire 10-Year-Old from Atom Labs, & really enjoying them both, I was very excited to try this release!
Atom Labs is a sister company of @MasterOfMalt: “Atom Labs is a small team that is constantly busy innovating in the world of spirits, making the next big thing” – Master Of Malt.
so the whole idea behind the brand is it’s no fuss. we want whisk(e)y to be simple. the liquid is exceptional and nothing else matters. we also wanted to move away from the stuffy traditional marketing of so many whisky brands #thewhiskeychaps

As well as being an actual lab, Atom Labs also functions as an independent bottler, looking for tasty liquid to market in interesting ways such as Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire & Burnt Ends Blended Whiskey, a super smoky whiskey inspired by American BBQ, which we’ll be tasting very soon too.
Appearance: Lovely deep gold, amber, those 10 years have worked their magic. Plenty of legs, nice and oily
Nose: Sweet aromas are the first to emerge from the glass, probably due to the low abv allowing them to shine. Plenty of lovely vanilla and honey notes, along with cereals, confectionary sugars and banana. There are some spices on the nose, but they’re in the minority. To be honest, I would prefer more abv here, which may be increased by just 5%, to get a little more punch.
we don’t have it in the pipeline but it’s not something we would rule out. i think if we had the demand for it we would (make a lot of noise on social channels about it!) #thewhiskeychaps

Palate: Not hugely oily, but not overly watery either. Spices, more heat than I would have imagined, based on the nose. White pepper & some Xmas spices swirl around the palate. There is some butteriness too, after a while. Nice ‘Kentucky hug’ too, even with the lower ABV! The more sips I take, the more buttery the flavours become. There’s also a slight mint at the back of the tongue.
Finish: A balance of sweet and spicy. peppered honey is the closest description I can think of.
Overall: I like it, it’s an easy sipper, however, I would like to try a CS version please!
Thanks to Laura Carl from Atom Labs for joining us for this tasting. Well worth a follow to keep up with their releases!
Follow @atomlabsukyes, SO, I’ll let you into a little secret here. we’re actually rebranding the name of this one. it’s going to be changed to Oak & Oxidation etc. the thinking behind it was that people didn’t know the first word/know how to search for it! #thewhiskeychaps
