Matured in Black Isle Brewery Imperial Stout + Bacalhôa Moscatel De Setúbal Wine Casks
An unusually creative collaboration, this intriguing mix marries the best bits of its wine and beer counterparts; sweet and buttery with hints of orange marmalade and espresso.
Cu Bocan Whisky
Tasted as party of the @TweetTasting for @cubocanwhisky on twitter on 24/3/2021.
Appearance
This whisky is mid gold in colour, very viscous on the glass and has lovely syrupy thick legs.
Nose
Sweet and dark, floral notes, cut grass, perfume, Parma violets, wood varnish, fizzy up the nostrils, tree bark after it’s been stripped off, black cherries, a putty note and old style cough syrup. And I’m getting rich tea biscuits too now, certainly a developer, like the Signature.
It’s so complicated for me, so many notes in the aroma.#CuBocanWhisky

Palate
Spicy and warming, nice mouthfeel too, hot ginger and cinnamon, linseed oil putty, sweet sugar coated lemon slice jellies and wine gums. Then it turns darker, stewed dark fruits and seared pineapple, towards Black Forest gateaux. Black coffee, oak, chilli’s, dark chocolate, sweet lemon and pineapple, even guava.
I can get the coffee 👍🏻

Finish
Quite long, mainly spicy and warming like the palate, and yet a sweet note hangs around too, it’s a nice balance to be honest.
My thoughts
After first tasting the Cu Bocan Signature, which i really enjoyed, i found that i really enjoyed this bottling too. Like the Signature this bottling has lots to offer aroma and flavour wise, i could easily sit with a glass of this for an hour, experiencing it develop. Another winner from Cu Bocan in my humble opinion, for just under £53.
Would i buy a bottle?
Yes i would, especially as i did prefer this a little more than the Signature, both being very nice and good quality though.
Note – This whisky is presented in its natural colour and non chill filtered.
