An experiment where the Far East and Europe meet, this innovative creation is rich and lively with hints of smoke and key lime pie.
Cu Bocan Whisky
Tasted as party of the @TweetTasting for @cubocanwhisky on twitter on 24/3/2021.
Appearance
This whisky is very light in colour, straw or white wine. It’s again very viscous and has lovely syrupy thick legs.
Nose
Wow, at 46% it’s powerful on the nose, and makes my nose fizz, and it’s really quite sweet and dusty. Cream soda, vanilla, a touch of eucalyptus, a meaty note, green grapes, cocktail cherries and linseed oil putty. Well toasted bread, floral, bbq meats, Pontefract cakes, and a little foresty. It’s sweetening up generally, stoned fruits, and the strength just isn’t reducing, I would have said 50+% ABV.
Palate
Very spicy for me, @gordonsmith63, one for you mate. High cocoa content dark chocolate, dark chocolate Orange, chilli’s, light tannins or char, hard boiled round apple sweets, apricots, cloves, liquorice, aniseed, star anise, ginger. A little drying as it’s sitting a little longer, and more sweetness tbh, cream soda again for me, and icing sugar too. You spice boy you 😉

Finish
Long side of medium, light drying and warming, and for all the darker notes on the palate I find the finish quite sweet and refreshing, sure the darker notes are there but sweetness overwhelms them, it’s very nice.
My thoughts
This was the 3rd and final Cu Bocan offering of the evening, and again i really enjoyed it. This bottling offers more sweetness than the Signature and Creation #1, with lots going on besides. Another cracker in my humble opinion from Cu Bocan.
Would i buy a bottle?
It’s another yes from me. I hadn’t tried any whiskies from Cu Bocan prior to this tasting, i had a feeling the whiskies were going to be good, they were actually better than i expected, and i can’t believe it’s taken me so long to get to try their offerings.
Note – This whisky is presented in its natural colour and non chill filtered.
