This whisky was tasted as part of a trio of Deanston whiskies on 7/9/21.

This complex, sweet and spicy dram spent almost 14 years maturing in ex whisky re-fill casks before being transferred to Marsala wine casks in 2016. With a limited bottling of 1308, this is a dram to be savoured!
Appearance
Between light and mid gold in colour, swirl line is decent and beads up straight away into droplets, then very slow medium thick legs. #thewhiskeychaps
Nose
The nose on this is livelier, and fruitier for me too than the Fino bottling. The lemons and peaches here are so juicy, and there’s also a dustiness, there is an icing sugar sweetness in the background. Cream soda, though it’s faint, pine needles, and pastry notes. #thewhiskeychaps
With more time i’m getting red apple skins, lemon bon bons, wood oil, linseed oil and white pepper. #thewhiskeychaps
Nose: Again, good ABV hit, sherbert lemons, white wine, grape, a touch of distant smoke, wood notes: like the inside of freshly split wood. There's a very definate meaty quality to this one too BBQ ribs and bacon joint #thewhiskeychaps pic.twitter.com/3UA5mp1YkQ

Palate
This is much better for me, but there are shared flavours with the Fino. There’s lots of wood with this bottling, along with sweet lemon, peaches and apricots. Lots of vanilla come forward now, with the addition of milk chocolate, Mars bars, and some grapefruit too now #thewhiskeychaps
There is a touch of drying too now it’s stood longer, and the mouthfeel has thickened up too. #thewhiskeychaps
They've all had top-notch viscosity on the palate, it's a great consistent quality #thewhiskeychaps

Finish
Long side of medium in length for me, warming spices are here, the finish is much like the palate.
Aniseed is a great shout, ginger root too 🥰 #thewhiskeychaps

My thoughts
I have to say i really enjoyed this dram, i do prefer it to the Fino bottling, i can’t say that there’s that much difference between them in all honesty, just my palate. Whiskey Chap preferred the Fino. This is a bottling i’d very happily have in my whisky cupboard.
Notes – This whisky is presented in it’s natural colour and is non chill filtered.
Thanks to – Derek Mather at the Artisan Restaurant in Main street Wishaw in Scotland for getting this sample to me.
