This whisky was blind tasted with the Blind Tasting Consortium’s 19th session, the whiskies were selected by Callum (@glen_scotia) and Kate (@kccjf), both Twitter, as it was their 30th wedding anniversary.
Appearance
A light gold in colour, white wine like, with a medium thick swirl line and slow medium thick legs.
Nose
Initially i’m getting Menthol, followed by lemon cheesecake, aromatic woods, and a perfume/floral note. More time in the glass brings out pink wafer biscuits, rose water, and mineral water.
Palate
First thing noticed is a nice mouthfeel, then lots of 1st fill bourbon spices, it’s actually quite intense. Stoned fruits and green grapes make me salivate, white pepper, cinnamon, and cardamom bring some real spiciness. Apricots, milky coffee, and bitter lemon close the palate.
Finish
Quite long with continued spiciness and fruitiness. Still mouth watering and slowly I get liquorice, mocha, hot chocolate powder, liquorice torpedo kids sweets, and tobacco leaves.
My thoughts
Out of the 5 blind tasted whiskies i put this 4th with a score of 3 out of 5. I have to say that i really enjoyed it, and to find out that it’s a 1st fill Bourbon cask matured Glenfarclas, who are generally known for their sherry cask maturing, i thought this was a real treat. As i’m very much a Bourbon cask maturation fan i’d definitely have one of these in my whisky cupboard.
