This whisky has been matured in traditional Oloroso sherry and bourbon casks.

Appearance

Slightly lighter than mid gold this time, with quite a nice thick swirl line that gives more of an all over coating to my glass.

Nose

The ABV is noticeably higher here, and initially it’s much more damp forest walk, and dark fruits. There’s much more wood interaction with this one, along with cloves and dates, wood polish, and ponfefract cakes. #thewhiskeychaps

More time and it does sweeten up for me, strawberry lace sweets, then all of a sudden I get a faint smokiness, perhaps toasted tea cakes, that sort of thing. #thewhiskeychaps

Palate

Slightly better mouthfeel initially, and again I’m getting plenty of red berries, cranberries also this time, and a touch of drying also. It has a nice depth too it also, nicely rounded too. #thewhiskeychaps

More time and like the nose it sweetens for me. Cherryade, dandelion and burdock, and I have to say it does start to become spicier, nice development tbh. #thewhiskeychaps

Finish

Continues to be a spicy/fruit fusion, chocolate coated raisins, guava, grapefruit pith, cask char, and espresso coffee at the last. #thewhiskeychaps

My thoughts

The 11% ABV difference between this bottling and the core 15yo bottling is very evident, and i have to say it’s welcomed too. The increase brings more aromas and flavours, and noticeably more depth, the mouthfeel is thicker also.

Overall i really enjoyed this whisky, it has more of everything in my opinion, and would definitely be worth considering purchasing over the core 15yo bottle, i’d have one of these at the right price.
