In the vast wilderness of our island home, it’s easy to lose track of time. But if you stop a moment in that beautiful wilderness and take in the silence, eventually you’ll notice the rhythm of the tide bringing you back. Like the whisky in our casks, it’s an irresistible reminder of time’s power.
Matured in American white oak ex bourbon barrels, this whisky is then finished in hand-selected virgin American white oak casks, giving it a sweet, fruity and nutty flavour. This truly special whisky is available worldwide.
jURA wHISKY
Appearance
It’s a lovely deep gold, with a medium thick swirl line that beads up immediately and drops slow medium thick legs on my copita. #JuraWhisky
Nose
Higher ABV and the nose shows it. It’s foresty again but this time I’m getting blackcurrant jam, cloves and figs, grapefruit/pomelo, chocolate coated raisins, old style glazing putty, and macadamia nuts. #JuraWhisky
Palate
The mouthfeel continues to thicken over time, and bitter lemon is creeping in, damp leaf litter, cigar leaves, mocha, and with a real fruit sweetness that pierces it all, icing sugar/lemonade? #JuraWhisky
Black pepper, guava, grapefruit, back ground smoke, dates, 5 spices, mince pies with a dusting of caster sugar, lovely and warming. #JuraWhisky
Finish
Quite long and rich fruit cake with a iced topping. The spices are zesty, tangy, rather mince pie meet black forest gateau, with plenty of soaked in alcohol. It’s also rich and nicely rounded/married. #JuraWhisky
My thoughts
I hadn’t had the pleasure of tasting this Jura offering before this tasting, and i’m pleased iv’e tasted it now, it’s a lovely whisky. As with the 18yo it shows plenty of maturity, marriage and roundness with a light zesty twist on top, i really enjoyed it, and would definitely have a bottle in my whisky cupboard.
