Lambay Malt Whiskey is a blend of single malts that are both double and triple distilled, bourbon cask matured, and blended before finishing in Lambays’ signature cognac-cask style. Non-Chill Filtered.
Appearance: Honey/sunset yellow gold. Nice viscosity, good legs.
Nose: Red apples all day, honey, vanilla beans, foam pick n mix, especially foam bananas! A real sweet shop whiskey this one, very inviting indeed!
Summer fruit crumble and custard.
This is such a sweet and friendly nose, love it!
Palate: Toffee, spearmint, burnt sugar and the red apples lead the palate.
There’s a dryness at the top rear of the mouth that almost feels like it’s closing the throat, weird!
Slight bitterness, maybe orange and some grapefruit.
As the glass matures, the sweeter elements gain some ground over the bitterness, which is good. The vanilla and stewed fruits take over and this evolves into a very lovely whiskey.
Finish: The finish is still quite drying. The honey sweetness lingers, as does a very faint touch of black pepper.
Overall: Lovely nose, which the palate lives up to, given a little while. Let this one rest a little, take your time over it, it’s an evolver.
