The first release of the Sinclair Series, this non aged statement Ledaig Rioja Finish is finished in hand-selected Rioja casks, is non-chill filtered and natural colour. Inspired by the founder of Tobermory Distillery, John Sinclair, the Sinclair Series celebrates the heritage and creative approach to distilling.
Appearance: Deep orange, like the wine has had a huge influence on the colour too. Beautifully oily with quick-foeming thick legs and a teardrop heavy swirl mark.
Nose: A nice warming ABV wave reassures from the off. Beach fire smoke, barrel char, vanilla, blackberry and plum.
There’s spice after a little time for the glass to mature, slightly citrus like lemon pepper. It’s a very well balanced and married set of aromas and a very friendly nose indeed.
Palate: A very pleasing mouthfeel. Buttery smooth and rich. An immediate heavenly mix of sweet BBQ smoked meats, rich forest fruit deep seeetness and Christmas spices.
The second sip presents black pepper, a slight drying and vanilla custard.Finish: medium to long. Pepper dusted blackberries, mature BBQ with unclaimed smoked meats and vanilla.
Finish: medium to long. Pepper dusted blackberries, mature BBQ with unclaimed smoked meats and vanilla.
Overall: This is a very well put together whisky indeed. It’s well balanced and married, has a beautiful and luxurious mouthfeel and ticks all the boxes for a great buy.
What makes it an exceptional whisky is the price, it’s £30ish!
It actually reminds me slightly of a tamer version of Kilkerran 8yo CS.
For that price you’d be insane not to buy 2 bottles to start with and the more after the short time it’ll take to scream through them!
