A 2007 Macduff Finished in Ruby Port hogsheads before being bottled in November 2021 as part of its Vintage Casks series.
Appearance: Summer honey/lager amber (5-10). A substantial tide mark and viscous film form when swirled. Plenty of thick trails and large teardrops form quickly.
Nose: Sweet notes lead on this one. Lemon, pear, apple and some ore tropicals like pineapple. Christmas spices and digestive biscuits too. Lots going on already! Creme Brulee, custard cremes and sticks, yes sticks?!
Palate: A lovely sweet and spicy balance on the first sip. Those fruit notes, along with vanilla and aniseed as well as tingling white pepper and cinnamon. Coffee grounds, bitter chocolate and a more mellow Milka chocolate note follow. A very well-balanced and deep dram.
Finish: Medium in length. The coffee and Milka notes last for some time, along with a lemon pepper note and oaky dryness.
Overall: A very nice pour. Plenty going on and well-balanced. I really like the chocolate element.
