The latest variation of the 100 bourbon is finished in Cabernet Sauvignon Barrels. Only available outside of the US and limited to 6000 bottles.
Appearance: Rose wine pinkish amber. Many many thin trails form on a thin film within the glass. The swirl line beads quickly and morphs into droplets and teardrops.
Nose: A confectionary sugar-dusted melange of classic bourbon aromas. Vanilla, caramel, subtle sweet spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and black pepper and an earthy scent too. The sweetness helps to soften the spices nicely and creates a very friendly balance.
Palate: Foam bananas, strawberries and cream, vanilla and aniseed. There is a grapefruit bitter note lingering which I’m not a huge fan of but, at least early on, it’s faint. There’s a lovely layer of sweet oily berry jam on the palate. I prefer this finish to the Tawny Port as it’s had more of an influence and really increases the luxurious feel of the dram.
Finish: Medium to long. Berry sweetness, cinnamon, black pepper and a touch of orange all linger for a while. Vanilla and honey appear briefly right at the end too.
Overall: My favourite Rebel pour so far. I really like what the finishing has done here, it’s very well done and balances beautifully.
