Appearance
More of a deeper gold here, the swirl line is quite thick, and beads up to drop quick thin legs and slow dropping teardrops. #thewhiskeychaps
Nose
Loads of red berries, old style hubba bubba bubble gum, slightly vegetal, with cereals and grains, red berry strudel, then slightly foresty atm. #thewhiskeychaps
I’m getting a lovely sweet cream soda note now, tea cakes with raisins in them, perhaps linseed oil, sesame seeds. #thewhiskeychaps
Palate
Nice mouthfeel, and it’s instantly spicy and red fruit rich. It’s almost nutty, hazelnuts, we’ll toasted bread, cocoa powder, bitter lemon, guava. The ABV is good, and I’m getting faint sweet white wine if all things. #thewhiskeychaps
There’s definitely some tannins here, dark plums, chocolate coated strawberries too. #thewhiskeychaps
Finish
Quite long, lingering spices, they dance around my palate, sweetness to lingering around, it’s a nice combo tbh. Nice dram indeed. #thewhiskeychaps
My thoughts
This whisky came from a set of five samples, the 67th Cask Collection set from A.D.Rattray, and i thought it was delightful. I have tasted an independently bottled Royal Brackla before, and that particular bottling was also very good. The nose, palate and finish we all very nice in my humble opinion, as i’d hoped they would be. This is definitely a bottling i would happily have in my whisky cupboard, and coming in at £62 i think it is a very good buy indeed.
