Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire is a single malt from Islay, matured for 10 years, including 25% of it in first-fill Oloroso sherry octaves. This is the same whisky but bottled up at cask strength.
Appearance: Cider orange, amber. very oily in the glass, big thick bastard legs
Nose: Instant alcohol hit, mixed with heavily sherried smoke and band aids. There’s plenty of meaty notes too. Honey BBQ burnt ends, ribs, you name it!
Palate: The palate is as powerful as the nose! Just as much intense smoke and pungent dark fruits and blackberry sweetness. It’s a beast, but it’s wonderful and moreish with it! I’d almost go so far as to say there’s some wine influence here. There’s a perfume under all that smoke and sweetness. There’s also mint and some herbal notes too.
Finish: The finish is hot. Chilli and white pepper, which ends in a flurish of sweet smokey tinglings
Overall: Overall this is a real belter of a dram. Dangerous too, at 57%!
