the lakes founders

Drawn exclusively from the first 100 casks of whisky ever produced at The Lakes Distillery over 10 years. These bottles are limited to the members of the ‘Founders Club’ at the distillery.

Appearance: No real change in colour, compared to the 5yo. Honey/sunset gold. Nice corrugated oily coating and thick legs forming. Tobacco and leather appear as the glass matures.

Nose: Nice oily mouthfeel. Lemon pepper initially, followed by more red berry notes and the tobacco leaves I so often miss!
Mint Aero springs to mind, there’s smooth milk chocolate with a mild mint freshness.
I’m getting a smokey funk on the nose now (empty glass). This is the only one I’ve nailed the full sample too.

Palate: A little drying. Plenty of those buttery fruit pie notes and a little table salt. Garden mint and those baking spices from the previous spirits.
The tropical notes are constant throughout the different stages this spirit has gone through. It’s a pleasing note that adds lightness.

Finish: Medium. Baking spices and fruit pie. The toffee mint that’s been such a constant is still there.

Overall: This is really shaping up to be something great. Plenty of the right aromas and flavours, in the right quantities and balance too.
