“A blended malt Scotch whisky that comprises of a combination of 5 ex-sherry hogshead casks of 1994 vintage Speyside and Highland single malts and 15 ex-sherry hogshead casks of 1988 vintage unpeated Bunnhabhain single malt.
Wemyss Malts
The total of 20 casks were then blended together and then transferred into 14 refill hogsheads to marry for a total of 16 months.”
Appearance: Dark orange, almost an oak brown. Very viscous, coating and clinging to the glass, slowly letting go and forming thick oily legs.
Nose: a lovely balance of sugary sweetness, fresh-cut grass hedgerows and cereal.
It’s a fantastic nose, living up to the age and care that’s gone into this whisky.
Palate: After a nice slight tingling on the lips, the beautiful mouth feel sinks in, very oily. Buttery white chocolate, fresh sponge cake, liquorice, a slight salinity and some spearmint all make an appearance, balanced and bouncing off each other in harmony.
There are also candied tropical fruits (melon, mango and pineapple) towards the end of the palate, at the back of the tongue.
Finish: Salted white chocolate, a slight sharpness from the tropical fruit notes partners the sweetness, complimenting nicely.
Overall: Another utterly superb whisky from Wemyss. Can’t wait for whatever they release next. If I could reserve now, I would 100%
