A delicate fusion of flavors from seventh-generation distillers, this straight bourbon features a handpicked blend of 4- and 7-year-old bourbons, for an exclusive old-fashioned whiskey that honors its deep family origins.
Limestone Branch
Appearance
Mid gold in colour with perhaps a slightly orange hue, the swirl line on my stemmed tulip glass I quite thick and slowly beads up to drop an initial all over coating, then slow thick legs. #YellowstoneSelect #thewhiskeychaps
Nose
For 46.5% ABV it does nose higher, old style glazing putty greets me firstly, then vanilla pods, wood varnish, it’s actually fizzy up my nose tbh. Cherry throat lozenges start to push through. #YellowstoneSelect #thewhiskeychaps
Black peppercorns, cinnamon, damp leaf littler, cigar leaves and peaches with bitter lemon. #YellowstoneSelect #thewhiskeychaps
Palate
The mouthfeel is quite oily, and the spices explode on the palate, gobstopper cinnamon, ginger root, spicy vanilla, I’m getting a slight botanical note, perhaps some menthol too, and Turkish delight rose jellies. #YellowstoneSelect #thewhiskeychaps
Wood wax and polish, red berry strudel and vanilla custard. With more time it’s leaning towards cigar leaves, lychees, and we’re coming back to old style glazing putty again. It does stay nice and spicy all the way through. #Yellowstoneselect #thewhiskeychaps
Finish
Long side of medium, and the spices are still going, with more damp leaf litter and lychees, cask char, mocha coffee, toffee now, and black treacle. #YellowstoneSelect #thewhiskeychaps
My thoughts
When the opportunity arose to be a part of this tasting i did jump at it, because i’d tasted a different Yellowstone Kentucky straight bourbon last year and i really enjoyed it. I’m pleased i did as iv’e really enjoyed this bottling too, and since doing more bourbons as The Whiskey Chaps with my Whisky chaps partner iv’e come to realise they are all far from the same.
This bottling has a lovely nose, but the palate is where the good stuff is, lots of flavour, with many different notes, i’d very happily have a bottle in my whisky cupboard.
A big thank you goes out to Steve – @TheWhiskyWire and @ChapmanPoolePR From Twitter for letting me be a part of this flash blog on National Bourbon day.
